The innovative solution developed within the LIFE REAMINE project to capture and recover amine gases generated during the foundry core-making process has been included in the European Commission’s Innovation Radar, providing further recognition of the technological potential of the results achieved through the project.
The solution combines an adsorption column and a membrane device to capture amine compounds released during the production of foundry cores. It is designed to achieve capture efficiencies above 95% and purity levels above 90%, addressing one of the environmental challenges associated with the use of chemical binders in core-making.
By combining two complementary separation technologies, the solution enables the efficient capture of these gases while opening up the possibility of recovering the compounds obtained. This approach contributes to the development of cleaner and more resource-efficient foundry processes, combining emissions reduction with the recovery of potentially valuable compounds.
The Innovation Radar is the European Commission’s initiative for identifying innovations emerging from EU-funded research and innovation activities and assessing their potential for future impact. The inclusion of the LIFE REAMINE solution provides additional visibility to the technological results developed within the project.
For AZTERLAN, as a project leader for this ambitious initiative, this recognition highlights the value of AZTERLAN’s participation in collaborative European R&D activities and the importance of industry-led innovation in addressing real industrial challenges.
In the words of Lucía Unamunzaga, head of Sustainability and Environment research line at AZTERLAN, “the inclusion of the REAMINE solution in the European Commission’s Innovation Radar is an important recognition of the technological work being carried out throughout the project. For AZTERLAN, it shows our contribution to developing practical solutions to address environmental challenges in the foundry industry, while reinforcing the value of collaborative research”.
The recognition adds further visibility to LIFE REAMINE consortium’s work towards more sustainable and resource-efficient foundry processes, bringing together research and industrial expertise to address current environmental and technological challenges.
