Multi-sector challenge

More efficient Braking Systems

Braking systems are a critical component for the safety, reliability and efficiency of any moving system, whether in transportation, power generation or industrial equipment. For this reason, they have been evolving to improve their performance and effectiveness while simultaneously adapting to new environmental standards and requirements.

The Euro 7 standard (the new regulation by the European Commission setting stricter limits for vehicle emissions) introduces for the first time rules not only on exhaust gases but also on particles from brakes, tyres and batteries. The goal is to reduce the emission of ultrafine particles to improve air quality and positively impact public health.

Therefore, the development of more sustainable and efficient braking systems rests on finding an optimal balance between technical factors, such as friction coefficient, thermal stability, wear resistance and component weight; and integrating sustainability, health and cost-efficiency criteria throughout their manufacturing, service life and end-of-life.
